Window Update problem after installing XP SP3.

 

 

Installed XP SP3 on desktop or laptop using XP home or pro.

SP3 installed corrected but you are not able to install any of the later security updates. No problems on your computer.

Windows Update correctly finds the ones it needs to install, download completes instantaneously (looks like they are cached) but install for all 10 fail almost instantaneously. There is no error message just they did not install.

 

The Solution.

Go to C:\Windows\System32 and find and register Wups2.dll.

To do that, right click on it and select 'Open With' then 'Choose Program' and find C:\Windows\System32\Regsvr32.

If you choose to 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' then all you will have to do is double click on any .dll to register it.

 

Once you have registered Wups2.dll your problem will disappear.
